The New Moon

God's Sacred Calendar is based on the lunar cycle, and the observance of the first day of each month (the New Moon). The New Moon was observed by ancient Israel and the early church and it will be observed by all mankind after the return of Jesus Christ. The purpose of this study is to reveal some of the many meanings of the New Moon observance.

A short introduction that shows the importance of the first day of the month at the beginning of God's plan for humanity and its relationship to the commanded observances and holy convocations.

From the many scriptures that refer to the New Moon observance in the Old Testament, there can be no doubt that the observance of the first day of each sacred month was an intrinsic part of the worship system that God gave to Israel. This study reviews several scriptures and events that reveal the importance of the first day of the new month (the New Moon) and its observance in ancient Israel.

This dissertation explores the root cause of the controversy and makes an analysis from a perspective that is outside the oral law as set forth by those who sat in Moses' seat of authority over Israel.

Through historical references and specific Hebrew words, this study answers the question of whether the sacred month begins with the moon's first visible crescent or with a full moon through the use of historical references and Hebrew word definitions.

Some people who oppose the observance of the first day of each sacred month (the New Moon) and God's other commanded observances cite Galatians 4:10-11 as proof that these observance are obsolete and have no place in the present-day worship of God. The rationale of those who hold this belief is that the apostle Paul condemned the elect at Galatia for practicing the Old Covenant laws pertaining to the annual observances, the Sabbath, and the New Moon. This study clearly explains what Paul was really teaching the Galatians about the observance of the New Moon.
